Farm Fieldtrip  Program

Visit our five-acre Farm, a perfect place for school kids to learn about local agriculture while having fun in an exciting, beautiful, outdoor environment. Students will learn about farm practices, animals, plants, and the farm lifestyle, farm economics, along with history, math, science and health topics which are relevant to their studies. CTEC - Automotive Engine Repair

Instructor: Brian Suggs
Session: October 4, 2016 to December 15, 2016
Time: 10:00am -1:00pm, Tues. & Thurs.
Location: AXC Robert E. Petersen Garage at Fairplex (Gate 12) Course Fee: $450 During the course you will learn:
  • Basic skills and knowledge in diagnosis and repair of the general engine, cylinder head and valve train, engine block, and lubrication and cooling systems.
  • Test specifications, inspection, and service of the fuel, electrical, ignition, and exhaust systems
  • Receive hands-on practical experience designed to prepare you for the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification Exam.

CTEC - Just Sew Fun
Instructor: Nakita Chand
Session: October 10, 2016 to October 26, 2016
Time: 6:00pm -9:00pm, Mon. & Wed.
Location: The Learning Centers at Fairplex (Gate 1)
Course Fee: $200
During the course you will learn:

  • Machine Introduction, Safety & Operation: Learn how the machine operates and  is set up. Discuss machine safety & troubleshooting.
  • Fabrics, Cutting & Construction Overview: Understand basic fabric terminology, cutting terminology and  techniques and  sewing preparation.
  • Sewing Sample Notebook Project: Learn how to sew common seam, hem  and  finish types  including zippers, faced  hems and  channels.
  • Zip Bag Project: Learn elementary garment construct skills by making a zip up toiletry bag from scratch.
  • Drawstring Bag Project: Learn elementary pattern making and  sewing skills by creating a simple drawstring bag.
  • Canvas Tote Bag Project: Learn elementary bag construction and  sewing by making a gusset-bottom canvas  tote  bag.

1 million and counting…

More than one million students and teachers have visit the Los Angeles County Fair as part of TLC’s Fairtime Education program. Schools visit free of charge and experience the educational aspects behind the Fair’s programming.

Since the Career and Technical Education Center’s inception, over 1,000 students have completed classes – for credit and experience – in art, automotive arts, horticulture, hospitality, water technology among other subjects. CTEC offers certification in many of its courses. CTEC students have gone on to fulfilling careers made possible through their studies with CTEC.
